Buying video management software (VMS) should be simple, but pricing rarely is. Most teams comparing HikCentral against alternatives hit the same wall: there is no public price. You request a quote, wait for a reseller, and only then learn what 100 or 400 cameras will cost. Skyline Surveillance Management System (SSMS) takes the opposite approach — the price is published, per camera, and it undercuts HikCentral by about 40%.
The headline: SAR 45 per camera, perpetual
SSMS is licensed per camera, as a one-time perpetual license — SAR 45 (about $12) each. There is no subscription and no per-seat fee. For a 400-camera site that is SAR 18,000, versus roughly SAR 30,000 for the equivalent HikCentral licensing in Saudi Arabia — a SAR 12,000 saving on the software alone.
| Cameras | SSMS (SAR) | SSMS (USD) | HikCentral (SAR, indicative) | You save |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16 | 720 | $192 | 1,200 | 480 |
| 64 | 2,880 | $768 | 4,800 | 1,920 |
| 100 | 4,500 | $1,200 | 7,500 | 3,000 |
| 200 | 9,000 | $2,400 | 15,000 | 6,000 |
| 400 | 18,000 | $4,800 | 30,000 | 12,000 |
The HikCentral column uses SAR 75 per camera — its best bulk rate in the Kingdom. At smaller counts HikCentral typically charges more per channel, so the gap in SSMS's favour is usually larger, not smaller. Prices are indicative, cover the software license only, exclude VAT, and are perpetual.
Why HikCentral feels expensive
HikCentral Professional is modular: you buy a base license per server, then add camera (channel) licenses, then add modules for ANPR, facial search, access control and so on. Published reseller pricing for a single camera channel sits around $46–$78 internationally, plus the base. It is capable software, but the quote-gated model makes budgeting slow and the per-channel add-ons add up.
What SSMS does differently
- Transparent pricing. SAR 45 per camera, on the page, no quote required.
- Every brand and protocol. SSMS speaks ONVIF (Profiles S, G and T) and RTSP, with native support for Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Uniview, Bosch, Hanwha and more — so you are not locked to one manufacturer.
- Auto-discovery via NVR. Point SSMS at an NVR or subnet and it finds the cameras for you.
- Multi-site over the network. Manage several branches from one console.
- Perpetual. Pay once. No annual renewal to keep your own cameras running.
Is it the same software?
No — SSMS and HikCentral are different products. SSMS is a VMS that Skyline delivers and supports; HikCentral is Hikvision's own platform optimised for Hikvision hardware. If you are an all-Hikvision shop that needs Hikvision-specific deep features, HikCentral may suit you. If you want lower, predictable, published pricing and freedom to mix camera brands, SSMS is built for exactly that.
